Hey guys,
I'm sure everyone's well aware of the general unavailability, and now price issues, of the Reloder series of Alliant powders. My problem is with RL 17. I have a really good load using RL 17 in my Remington XP-100 chambered in 284 Winchester w/ a 16" barrel. The past few seasons I've gotten by using ammo I've already loaded, but my inventory is almost gone. After the most recent jump in price (it's now $77/pound:eek: on Natchez), I've decided it's now time to make a change. I thought I'd start w/ something I already have. Possible replacements in my closet include: H414, H380, CFE 223, Varget, Hodgdon Hybrid 100v, RL 15 (velocity was disappointing when I tried it earlier) RL 22, Shooter's World Rifle Match and N140. Are there other alternatives I should consider? I've read good stuff on N155, but pricing and availability for it don't look much better than for RL 17. I'll be using bullets weighing 120-150 gr. Thx for your help.

Varget for the short barrel and light bullets, and especially if you decide to ever
use the Berger 140gr Hunter. H-4350 for everything else. It's a shame IMR-4451
is no longer available. It probably was as close as you could get to R-17 and get
some temp stability.
