Rmr bullets

Have any of you had any experience with the Rocky Mountain Reloading 75 gn .224 bullets in a 223 R?
I've been averaging 1/2" groups with the 69gn and am anxious to try the heavier ones, but curious as to others' results.

RMR is 2hrs south of me. Out of 36 customer reviews on that bullet only 2 were less than a 5. If I had a 223 I'd be trying them, use their pistol bullets in every caliber I have and love them.

You must be one of the lucky ones that can get the 69 to shoot. No one else can get very good results from them. I use the 55gr hornady soft points that shoot WAY better than the lot of 2000 69gr RMR bullets I got. Best I can get is 1.25" with them. In 4 different riffles. The latest is a Criterion 26" on my Axis. Still 1.25" Heck the Hornady fmj shoot the same as them.

I have carefully measured my results with the 69 RMRs with my 1:9 twist Savage 12 FV and they are pretty accurate bullets.
They have averaged 0.308 for 31 5-round groups with three different powders (N140, N540, and Varget) at 100 yards. The groups with Varget have averaged 0.286.

With the same rifle, the much more expensive Sierra 69 SMKs have averaged 0.282 for 159 5-round groups at 100 yards with the same three powders plus one additional powder, IMR4166. The groups with Varget have averaged 0.233.

Considering the price difference, the RMR 69s are a bargain, especially if one is trying to build consistency in their shooting.

If I weren't so anal about accuracy, I would be shooting a lot more of them.

1-7 to 1-9tw is what I have shot them in. The lot I have has all kinds of crap in the tips of the hp's. I have used the loads they recommended and seating lengths. Still not good. I think I may just have got a bad batch.

Also the base of the bullets have a sharp edge on them. I have seen other people that had the same thing and they could not get them to shoot. Luckily I have a very large amount of 52gr hpbt bullets that will shoot a .2" 7 shot group. And they were only $0.11/bullet. I am using the rmr bullets for range blasters now till they are gone.

I too must be a lucky one as I have a Savage Model10 with 22" 1:9 twist that I used two years ago with 69gr. to shoot my first league with. Of 20 members I finished 14th for my first year. Would say I was quite pleased with that. The top 10 shooters had all been shooting this for the previous 9 years.

It could be the OALs you're seating them at. Or it could be that you're using powders suited for light bullets.
I find that bullets from 69 gr to 77 gr like powders that are more appropriate for .308s than light bullet .223s (Varget, H4895, N140, N540, Reloader 15, etc.).

69 grain bullets are a lot longer than 55 grain bullets and should be seated out further if you chamber allows it.
Most recommended OALs for .223 & 5.56x45 loads are between 2.250 and 2.260 because of the AR mag limits.
If you are seating your 69 grain bullets at OALs recommended for an AR mag, you might not be getting optimum performance from heavier bullets.
I find that factory ammo, even the 69 and 77 grain ammo, is all seated for ARs and they don't shoot as well as my hand loads.

I seat my 69s SMKs and RMRs out at 2.290 to 2.305 in a new barrel depending on the trim length and powder.
Now that my rifles have a bit more throat erosion due to heavy use, I am starting to seat them out even further to maintain the jump I find works well.
Earlier this year, with almost 5,000 rounds down the barrel, I seated them out between 2.353 to 2.366 and averaged 0.239 for 16 groups at 100 yards.

I have tried h335, varget,rl15,imr4320,imr4064,h4895,imr4895,tac,sw tac rifle,748,2460. Tried seating out to what sierra 69gr are supposed to be. Are any of your guys bullets have the burr on the base of the boat tail?

I follow about 6 different forums that people post about these bullets. MOST all seem to be able to shoot these in the 1.25" range. With very few getting better. No one getting what you guys are saying.

I have learned to add or subtract 33% to what most people say about anything hunting or shooting related depending on what they are claiming. Not calling anyone out but.. this has been my experience

I just just searched back through saved photos in both my computer and phone. Phone should have had pictures of 10 weeks of league shooting when I was using the 69gr RMR in my Model 10. That is the 22" barrel with 1:9 twist. I shot those the entire 10 weeks from 100/200/300yds and at 100yds I was able to hold .5MOA and under 1MOA at 300 yards. But after phone upgrade and a computer meltdown, twice. Those photos are all gone.

My second year shooting I also started shooting a Savage Model 11 with a Model 12 26" barrel. Which is what I am shooting now and it hates the 69 RMR. 10314

In the Model 10 I was getting groups that looked like the other three bullets.
