I want to buy a Savage action for a 28 Nosler project I'm contemplating . I called Savage and they said I'd have to find a retailer as they don't sell direct to the public . I have the Proof barrel and a VG2 stock , looking for a ultralite action , or something better . Smoother I mean , my Ultralite action is a little raspy , for lack of a better word .

MOD's , if this is against the rules please delete , and thank you .

Dave , neither place has it in stock , I've been watching those two for weeks . Do they order it if needed ?

You’ll have to contact them. I source Actions from used rifles myself.

Look in various forums classifieds. Savage actions are there all the time. I sold a lightweight hunter action yesterday and a model 10 action last week.

Post some want ads in the various classified sections and the action will come to you.

You could also find a complete used gun at a gun shop or gun show nearby. Just take a tape measure and make sure you get the right bolt spacing. Buy it for the action and re-sell the leftover parts. Just depends on the price whether it’s worth it but there are some deals out there sitting on racks.

Just another idea on a different way to get what you need.

I've been trying to do that recently. The old days of searching gun racks is mostly gone. Even the smaller pawn shops around here have their guns listed on gunbroker. And folks at the gun shows seem to think they should get a premium prices instead of bargain prices.

I know I'll probably end up with a new action from one of the regular sources.

Every thing I do is Gunbroker now. And I have a private FFL near me to deal with.

Northland said no dice as I have a large shank action , and I have not gotten through to JA yet . Savage said I'd have to buy it from a FL dealer as they don't sell to the public ? I think she was a new person .

I've seen a few used for sale , but top release , not bottom , and they are priced close to what I think I should be able to buy a new one for .

You do have to buy actions through an FFL.

Think Savage meant you couldn’t buy it from them yourself and have it shipped to an ffl. The ffl has to purchase the action and then sell it to you.
No big deal if your ffl will do it. You have to go thru them anyway
