Question on model 10

I bought a used Model 10 in .223, just like a used car, if you buy a used gun you never know what has or hasn't happened to it in the past.

After shooting it a little, it shoots well, I got a little irritated at the safety, it is very tempremental, especially getting it back on safety after shooting. In fact, the only easy way to get it back on safety is to cycle the bolt. Also, I have another Savage and it has what I think of as a 3 phase safety, which I like, but not this one....

So I take the stock off to investigate the trigger. Looking at the 3 screw trigger adjustment thread (http://savageshooters.com/SavageForum/index.php/topic,19414.0.html) as a guide just for what should be there there are some screws missing. So has this trigger already been replaced? If so, what type of trigger is this?

I really want the safety to work better and I would guess that would require changing the trigger, as it seems just by looking at the safety adjustment screw and the overtravel screw both seem to be rounded out. (nice)

Am I right about what I am seeing? What trigger should I look at to replace this? Is this a DIY job? TIA..

You have a 2 screw trigger. The safety can be adjusted, just go easy.
You don't have the sear adjustment. I think adjustment is same as 3 screw minus sear.

Yup. That is basically the same trigger that still comes on a new Stevens. You also have a 2 position safety it sounds like.

Also, I believe that you cannot put the rifle on full safety once it is de-cocked(or fired). I do know that with a 3 position safety you can put it on the middle safety position(trigger cant be pulled but bolt can be opened) but you cannot put it on full safety.

If you are re-cocking the bolt and it is still hard to put back on safety(with it cocked), then you are out of adjustment a little.

Just follow the 3 screw adjustment thread in the order written, just doing what pertains to your trigger(safety, overtravel, and trigger wire).
