Hello,

I am a new member and think this issue is in a correct forum to ask.

Recently I've got a 1917 Savage pistol in .380ACP. I've noticed, when done with effort, manipulating the slide releases the striker forward. I have so far disassembled the breech plug and changed the sear and firing pin springs. While there, I saw the area where the firing pin contacts the sear has been ground off, so I rotated the firing pin 180 degrees and installed it that way to give the sear unaltered contact area.

Unfortunately, striker still follows forward after all that. I have also changed the trigger spring (someone made a flimsy, makeshift spring.) Anyone with knowledge of the issue please help.

Thanks.

I have fixed the issue. After disassembling the breech plug and polishing all contact surfaces (sear, firing pin, breech plug itself) the gun functions as intended. Now, regardless of how energetically I rack the slide, the striker stays in place and doesn't follow the slide forward. I hope this will be helpful to others down the line who have similar problems.
