New and clean 280 AI barrel except where they cut the leade it looks like they had an issue with the tool or had some grit in the barrel that created gouges as you can see in the video.

Should I just try to shoot it out or what?

Brush it and flush it real good in that area, and all the way down, THEN ENJOY IT

Probably.

If they had used a leade cutter with a bearing on the end, I doubt this would have happened.

Other than the dings, the rifling looks really good.

Looks fine. If you are worried about the one scratch, it’s in the groove, so no problem. Remember also, everything you’re seeing is crazy magnified. These are micro imperfections. Just clean it out, shoot it & clean it a few times before you even start worrying about what the borescope shows.

I agree Art… Barrel makers HATE the cheap borescopes now that everyone can get. The problem is, everyone & their brother are getting these things and condemning their new barrels before ever sending a single round down the pipe! Or, understanding the various machining marks & what is actually problematic vs normal marks made in high production automated machining. I’m not accusing the OP of this. Just what I’ve seen in the last several years.

If it were a premium barrel I'd take a pic and get a return tag.

Since it isn't I'd just shoot it.

I would clean the copper out of it frequently for the first hundred or so rounds. Give it a faster 'smoothing'. I would not lap or anything like that since the damage is limited to the throat area.

This is a hunting barrel, so not a big deal if it will group. I just think that its a shame since the rest of the grooves and lands are so good.
I may JB it and see if it cleans up any.

Also, about the bore scope, I didnt buy it for this barrel.
I bought it for a 22LR target rifle I am working on.

So, I would just shoot it. You'll probably be surprised at how well it does. Don't use the JB until you see the results.

FWIW, many of us who have Savage factory barrels deal with some pretty bad machine marks in the barrels. They still shoot very well, just collect a lot of copper.
