Joined to learn more about Savage bolt actions.
Have been casually shooting things from old battle rifles, SKSs, and kitchen built ARs.
In my old age have been trying my hand at F-Open 600 for now, 1000 this fall, with 22 Nosler/22Nosgar.
As the wife gets better I think it's time to move her to a bolt gun. I'll probably stick with the AR as a challenge.
Since she is a girl, it will be a girl caliber rifle :)
I'm knee deep in 22 cal heavy bullets and that's where I will focus.
Anyway, thanks,
Rocketvapor

Oh. BTW… you are about to become part of a close knit brotherhood. Being the proud owner of The United State’s longest running produced rifle. America’s Rifle; the Savage 110 platform. ‘Murica!

Thanks for the welcome.
Today I ordered a Model 10 receiver (in 308) from NSS.
Looked at the want ads, other brands, etc. but jumped.
Have a 6.8 SPC/224V bolt head on the way.
First build so expect me to be a pest :)

Probably start my own build thread when parts start coming in.
I need to finalize barrel parameters and get on order as this is the long lead item.
Rifle will be for the wife shooting 600/1000 F-class. Currently using a kitchen built AR, 28" bull barrel, 20 pound weight, in 22 Nosgar (resized 6mm Hagar).

Freebore is the dimension in question. 3 Nosgar dummies with the Berger 85.5 loaded to bases sized to ZERO headspace in the AR, and TOUCH in a slightly used barrel (about 700 rounds) is what I think will be a good starting point (or maybe 0.020" to 0.030" longer? to get a little better fit with the 90's ?)

Checked a few AR 6.8 bolts, and get no more than +/- 0.001" difference in headspace measuring lugs and face depth, and checked in the upper with a cutdown ejector spring, slipping under the extractor and bumping long fired/sized cases to get the edge in bolt lock to no bolt lock.
Using dummies sent to barrel guy should give me something usable.

The issue is the 90A-Tip. It is really too long for the 22N chamber. Maybe sending in slightly lengthened 85.5 dummies, which I can load a little longer, and still load the 90's.
Here are some pics of the 85.5 loaded to touch in the wife's AR.
Still working on the pics :(
I use a modified Hornady insert reamed to 0.217" instead of the as-supplied 0.213" insert and a glued together dummy for reloading reference.

BTO for the 85.5 with the stock Hornady insert (measures 0.213") is 0.620", and 0.599" with the modified insert.
CBTO is 1.941" with the stock Hornady insert, and 1.922" with the modified insert (@ touch in her barrel).
OAL (zero headspace, touch) is 2.496".
Ordered barrel from NSS. Now the wait really begins :)
