Has anyone found one specific bullet weight that works well in a Savage 338 win mag? I shot my custom shop 338wm with 225 gr Hornady GMX with 75.5 gr Ramshot Hunter, chronoed 2760fps, three shots duplicated velocities but the group was spread out. The sheet that came from Savage with the rifle listed they used a 200 gr Winchester Ballistic Silvertip for the test shots. I guess what I am trying to find out is if there is one bullet weight that works best with the Savage rifle in 338wm.

The only experience I have with the .338 Win Mag was with 250gr Swift A-frames.

How accurate does it need to be? I was hunting plains game in South Africa so a 2 moa group was good enough.

My M116 in .338 Win Mag groups about the same with 200 and 250-grain bullets - between 1.5 to 2 moa. That's plenty for any game I have used the rifle on, it isn't a varmint rifle. Group size is dependent on barrel quality, load, scope tightness and shooter ability. The .338 kicks enough to cause flinching in plenty of shooters.....
