Guys I have allways shot sierra mk in my 12F but a pal at the range told me that hornady 30 Cal .308 168 gr BTHP shoots better in his 12F then 168 Sierra MK 168 gr so I thought I would give them a try. Has anybody ever reloaded them before and if so How did they do?
I did take one and check the OAL with my gauge and it is a lot differant then my old sierras. My sierra 168MK was 2.220 to the lands and the hornadys were 2.198 to the lands. Do you guys think it is worth the powder and the time to load theses??

Just like any other bullet, the only sure way to find out is to try it in your rifle. But I can tell you that I have used Hornady 168gr BTHP bullets in both of my .308 rifles (Savage 10 FP and Rem 700) with very good results. Both the Sierra MK and Hornady HPBT are good bullets.

Yeah, you'll just have to try them. You can take identical rifles, made on the same assembly run, one after the other, and they'll likely prefer different loads to each other. That's just the way it goes...

I have used a lot of the Hornady 168gr BTHPs in my M1s - provide good accuracy and I got them a good bit cheaper than SMKs. For those that worry about such things, I have noticed that they leave more copper than the SMKs but I haven't seen any adverse impact on accuracy.
