Any owners out there? How fast are you pushing the 140 or 142s?

Years ago (like 7-8) I had an NRA Match Rifle built using a Rem700 action (sorry) with Pac-Nor 30" medium Palma taper barrel 1-8" tw 3-groove. Mag length loads were S120MKs over Varget seated to mag length (2.790") for loading from a stripper clip for RF stages. Slow-fire ammo for 600+ was either a S142MK or a L139 over 38.0gn Varget at ~2750fps. Brass was formed from necked down Winchester .308 Win cases. I had a few loads that went faster... 2900+ with a healthy charge of H4350, but I was a little more cautious about my loading then and decided since that was normally 6.5-284 territory, I probably didn't want to be pushing a 6.5-08 that hard (even though I really didn't see any signs of pressure). I had over 15 firings on my cases and the primer pockets were still good-n-snug - though the necks definitely needed annealed! Probably could have turned things up a bit and been okay, but I did notice that the load that Sheri Hurd won the 2010 Camp Perry XTC matches with included Varget pushing a S142MK @ ~2750fps...

Sometimes mo' isn't always mo' betta ;)

I am pushing the 142SMKs at 2800 right now with a 26" Shilen. Thinking about going to a 30" and maybe squeezing 2900 out of it.

I would imagine that 100FPS is within reach with 4" more barrel length.

As a curiosity... there seem to be people out there pushing 6.5x47L and 6.5 Creedmoor to similar claimed velocities with the same or less powder. How much of that is internet hoakum and how much is someone's chrono needs calibrated... dunno
