I am looking for a base, and have pretty much decided to go with the EGW for the value. I see MidwayUSA offers two types - a regular one piece and then there is a heavy duty base. The regular base is $40 and the heavy duty is $68, or something close to that. I was thinking the .308 cartridge would probably be fine with the $40 base. Is that correct?

Is the "heavy duty" base the "HD Low"? If so, I have two and like them a bit better than the regular ones. Not because of the "HD" part, more because of the "Low" part. They are a bit thinner than the regular bases and keep the scope a little tighter to the barrel/bore.

I found that the standard base will do just fine.
I sent you a PM.

Personally I would go for the one piece Tally's which include the rings. Less expensive quality mount at half the cost (or less) of a base/ring combo.

I'd also look at the new Weaver Tactical bases. They are thin like the EGW HD's but cheap like the regular EGW's.

I've heard very good reports about them.
