Any model 340 owners on board?
I picked up what I believe is a model 340 in 222Rem this weekend at local gun show. It could also be a stevens 325 ? (I’m not really sure yet) It has a side mount scope set up that I believe is blocking the stamping info. The only visible info stamp I can see is the serial number and 222Rem on the barrel. I believe my serial number is an early unit at 102xxx? The boy and I put a box of amo through it and we are impressed at the accuracy so far. It came with a set of dies and a few other extras.

Had a .30-30 an a .222. The .222 was 3"@100 so i did not keep it. Barrel was a bit smooth from use.

Ours seems very accurate. So far anyway.
I believe ours has a fairly heavy barrel.

Had one in .22 Hornet. I struggled with the sheet iron magazine but it was deadly accurate.

I managed to find a few more boxes of factory 222rem ammo online. Also picked up a lb of H335 powder. We have 40gr H Vmax bullets also. Just need some small rifle primers which a local friend has. We will shoot up the factory ammo then start reloading our own.

i have 2 340's currently. one 30-30 and one 340D in 222. i have had the 222 for about 50 years now. though several times i have swapped it off to a family member for something or other.
last time it came home I couldn't get it to group worth spit. i scrubbed the bore with lead remover and got dirty patches for over an hour. started thing i was turning it into a smooth bore.
it finally cleaned up and the rifling was sharp and shiny again. who shot lead through it i will never know.
after my cleaning efforts it shoots 1" or less at 100 yards from a rest.
the 30-30's i have had many over the years. some shot great and some were tomato stakes. the one i have now is very accurate with 150g silver tip hand loads. like 1"- at 100 yards. ticks off my friends with there AR's when that old 340 matches them at 100!
one 340 in 3030 i had in the 80's would make my nose bleed every time i shot it. finally mic'ed the bore and it was .300. squeezing those .308's down the barrel made the thing kick worse than my 338wm.
