i have bought a used 22 Hornet in a 10" Contender barrel. the rifling in the barrel looks good, but i will clean that right up to bare steel. i still have to buy dies and brass and 45 - 50 gr bullets. targets and once in a while, groundhogs are on my menu.

being on the brass shortage, i was thinking of reaming to a 22 K-Hornet to save the brass. what do you think?

I have a older 10 inch, 22 hornet barrel. It’s a tack driver with cast bullets.

I had a very accurate 10 inch T/C stainless barrel that got me started into handgun hunting grounds about 6 years ago. Sadly I sold it to upgrade to a 16 inch MGM 222 rem. I do have a 8 in 1 in 7 twist MGM that shoots 80 grain cast bullets subsonic. It's my backyard steel plate plinker.

Google 22 Hornet brass for sale I recently see some 100 piece bags of Winchester brass for $45.00

You will get DOZENS of reloads with Hornet brass. Changing it into a K-Hornet will gain you very little.
If you want to push it to the limits of it's velocity capabilities you will gain about 100 -200 fps with a K-Hornet.

I think I'm on 5 reloads with my batch of Hornet brass. I've not lost a case yet. This is in a 14" factory T/C barrel. I'm using an RCBS full length die set, so brass life has been great so far.

My buddy had a Savage (25?) single shot rifle with an over sized chamber. His brass was splitting on the first resize, so he switched to a neck sizing RCBS die and problem solved.

the velocity doesn't concern me much. what i do care about is brass.

Several years back I had MGM build me a 1-8 twist 22 Hornet throated for 75 grain bullets and threaded for a can, to shoot subsonic, and it still shoots 45-50 grainers just as well as the heavier bullets.

i'm told (from a guy who owns the local feed store/gun shop and farming) that his grandfather and his dad used a 22 Hornet for crop damaged deer.

I had 2 neighbor boys several years ago that filled a bunch of deer tags with a .22 Hornet, they picked their shots carefully and never lost a deer.

I reload 22 hornets for a buddy who uses it for deer hunting. Selects neck shots only. I don’t think he’s lost any deer.
