Hello all, I just wanted to confirm what many others have said and show that the iron sights shoot too high on the savage scout. I purchased a new savage scout in .223 to act as a patrol rifle, truck gun, varmint gun of sorts. Shots were taken at 50 and 100 yards. Shots were taken off of a basic bench rest and not a sled. High groupings shown are a "lollipop" with a sliver of white sight picture. Black grouping are based at the bottom of the target/outer ring. I only took the rear sight to the flush config as you should have a little room to breathe for longer shots. My photos are attached. I am ordering a scope and will hopefully post in the next month or so with MOA/accuracy.

I am kind of disappointed but at least I know where https://1drv.ms/u/s!ArIAoS0ivyQ6gpcaaqN5twTQKuXFxA?e=J7lfQMto hold if using the irons.

So I’m confused? You’re disappointed, yet you didn’t adjust the rear sight any lower?

Also, I’m looking at your target & there are hits all over. Several high, several low & several right in-line with bullseye. So where did you have the sight for the various levels.

Also, what exactly do you mean by only taking the sight to flush to have room for longer shots? I’m guessing you are referring to the placement of the sight on the ramp as outlined in your picture?

Correct, I only took the rear sight flush to the position shown in the photo. If you go past that it comes very close to touching the receiver and it just didn't seem normal to me. I'm not super disappointed just trying to provide test results for other shooters. It seems like savage could benefit from installing a taller front sight on this model or doing some other research to increase accuracy per sight picture. Not a gun smith myself just wanted to get this thread going again to see if others had similar experiences.

This link is updated to add the sight picture I used to get each of those groupings. Groupings could have been better but my eyesight is pretty poor/shots were fairly rushed just to get a feel for the iron sights. I do have to say that I love the trigger on this scout though.

I got ya. The sight will work going back more. That why there are still measurements. It doesn’t matter if it doesn’t seem right. That’s just how it works.

Oh, I get it trust me! I’m completely blind in one eye & the working eye ain’t so good, LOL! But that’s why I don’t mess much with irons. I like scopes & reflex sights.

This has been a known issue with the Savage Scout sights for years now, and unfortunately the front sight design offers no adjustability or means to replace the front post with a taller one to lower the POI.

Just wanted to report that this gun is getting good groupings with a scope. I'll have to work more on dialing this in but for the initial sight in today this gun is doing quite well. Additional photos added. https://1drv.ms/f/s!ArIAoS0ivyQ6gpcWfCE7Ss3MH40Yyg

Hello To all. I'm new to this so I'll try not to be annoying. I've had the same issue with my 110 Scout. Shoot way to high. Have just put a 1-4 on it in the interim. Have looked on line for replacement sights with very little luck. Does anybody know of anyone making a taller sight for it without having a custom one built?

Was thinking about this off and on. Reminded me of a problem I had with my Garand. It also shot high at 100yd with the sights bottomed out. BUT, if I set it to the battlesight it hit right on at the proper range, ie, 300yd. I wonder if Savage did the same type of thing, setting up the sights to be zeroed at the 'battlesight'. IIRC for the M14 (.308) that was 250yd.

So, if that is the case them if the rifle is zeroed at 250 yd it will be about 4" high at 100yd with the typical 150gn FMJ BT.
