I need to ship a handgun I sold out of state.

I use to use usps when I had my FFL but the laws now say it has to go FFL to FFL

Fedex no chance in hell

UPS I guess I can ship overnight only from no. Licensed dealer to an FFL but I have to take it in is that correct?

is there another option I’m not seeing?

UPS recently changed it's rules regarding firearms and firearm accessories. There's a thread a few down from this one where that was being discussed with a couple videos linked with more detailed information.

Handguns are a PITA to ship if you don't have an FFL these days. Here's a couple links that should be helpful...

Generally speaking, the following applies:

UPS: Handguns have to be shipped NEXT DAY and must be shipped to an FFL (new rules as of last fall by UPS (as I understand them) now require all firearms to be shipped FFL to FFL, so no more Individual to FFL shipments are accepted. (see https://www.ups.com/us/en/support/shipping-support/shipping-special-care-regulated-items/prohibited-items/firearms.page )

USPS: Does not accept any handgun shipments other than FFL to FFL and for government agencies.

FedEx: Currently the only shipper I'm aware of that still allows an individual to ship a handgun to an FFL holder. (see https://www.fedex.com/en-us/shipping/how-to-ship-firearms.html)

I just shipped a pistol back to Savage via FedEx last week. I would only recommend either delivering the package to your local FedEx Ship Center/distribution hub in person. FedEx now uses Dollar General stores as local drop-off locations as well as many Office Max and UPS stores - many of which won't accept packages containing a firearm. NEVER leave a package containing a firearm of any kind at one of these drop-off points - go directly to a FEDEX hub and MAKE SURE TO GET A RECEIPT for the package when you drop it off.

For most folks I would just recommend taking it to your local licensed gun shop and ask them to ship it for you. They'll probably charge you a small fee to do so, but it's well worth the piece of mind as they deal with USPS, UPS and FedEx on a daily basis, know the unique rules/regs for each carrier, etc.

Thankfully my local FFL has shipped a couple handguns for me, I think he charged me $35.00. It's getting harder and harder for private people to do firearms related transactions.

Best way is to just have an ffl ship it for you. Probably not much difference in cost either
