Being what I will call "thrifty" I made this front rest. It became a project for students in my machine shop class. This rest works really well and I have made several with the last having a windage top. I also have made a number of bags with different fore end contours. There is no welding in the base . It is all assembled with mechanical fasteners.

Outstanding! Don’t you just love having this ability? Funny, you say “thrifty”.. well, sure as the money goes. But being able to DIY a product as high quality as any that can be purchased is a gift. And I’m willing to bet you sincerely love machining, don’t you? Just the doing.. Am I right? Bravo my friend.

I share that passion. To take a pile of materials, screws, nuts/bolts & fittings…

And turning them into a high functioning piece of equipment.

I may try doing a rest like yours next. Thanks for giving the incentive through sharing.

Here are 2 more pictures of rests that my students produced. these were senior year projects and the student had the option to paint or finish it as they wanted to. they started with a complete set of blueprints and each part was graded accordingly. It was a popular project to those students that were shooters. Obviously we were prohibited from working on guns in class so accessories were second choice. Majority of the students went on to work in industry after graduation.
