Is this going to be made with 221 Fireball or 7 br?

i gave some thought to doing that one in a contender carbine barrel (the one on the 7BR case), but then started thinking i might like it in a short light bolt gun.

It sounds like a fun project!

Mine is the 7 br case. I originally thought about the 338 woods walker but cases and dies were expensive . I think a 338 whisper rifle would be cool.

I'm surprised you can get a BR size case in a Contender frame, seems like it would be limited to an Encore.

I talked to Brian at ssk and he’s the one that recommended it for a contender.

I have 14 inch stainless 338 Whisper Contender base on the 7 BR case.
Left cartridge is loaded with Hornady 285 gr bullet and right is the Nosler 300 gr HPBT competition bullet. The Nosler’s are 2’nds
and they use to be $20-28 per hundred. Saw them yesterday and they are now $49 per 100. I shoot metallic silhouette with 338 Whipser
and it a hoot. 100 M pig on out it sounds like you hit the targets with a hammer. 300 gr bullet @ 1004 fps

Only for factory based ammo. Because the whisper is a wildcat, pressures can be kept safe.

HHI6818, that photo is cool as heck! How does it group at say 50 yards?
Thanks

When I fire formed the brass I loaded the Hornady 250 gr SP behind a healthy charge of Reloader 7. I read somewhere a subsonic load wouldn’t form case 100%. I shot a silhouette match with it using Kentucky elevation and shot a 40 and 8 shoot off chickens at 200 m!
pretty stout recoil and after probably 30 rounds I was bleeding! :p
My subsonic load is 10.2 grs of HP 38 and Velocity is 1004 fps
Here is SSK load data and velocities for so nice are impressive for for bullets weights and a 14 inch barrel.
I’ve become lazy about filing my targets and can’t find any for 338 W but when I do my part 5 shots will go 3/4 inch at 100 yds

I live an hour and 45 minutes from JD’s shop. I have 12 SSK barrels. One time when I stopped at SSK JD showed me a target that was 5 shots in one hole. When I asked he said come and I followed him to walk in gun safe where he picked up a REM 700 rifle. 338 Whisper!!! I knew them I wanted one. Bought mine online auction from Kittering Trading Post in Kittering ME for a steal. Several years later we took a vacation to Main and store was 30 minutes away. AWESOME sporting goods store!!!! If anyone is ever close to it by all means stop in!!!!

HH… that’s s a once in a lifetime experience for sure. :tea:

I plan on getting a 200 grain to shoot at 2000 fps which will be point and shoot out to 175 yards. I’m also getting it drilled and tapped for a front sight. Will put on a peep and get a subsonic load with a bigger bullet. I’ll shoot some Saint John’s River rabbits with the peep and the big and slow setup.

Hawk makes one that will. The Hornady 200 grain flat base will also.

An almost whisper, beginning to end of the story is to much to elaborate on, Being a major fan of TCUs I wanted a 338 TCU but splitting was to problematic, ( of course the next year I find Starline's 223 Basic cases) So this became my version, right side is a 223 case cut at the shoulder junction, left is a 360 DW case, It had to be simple so cut only no forming I use a 223 FL die and a 338 seater And something I could have made at MGM, they no longer do odd custom sadly, The barrel is now at MGM having it rimmed for 360 DW brass could not be happier the way it worked out, At 100 yards my worst groups are .26 center to center. And now it's RIMMED !!!!!
