Hi everybody. I picked up a used stagger feed Savage LA 110 in 7mm Rem Mag, and rebarreled it in .280AI. I was hoping the magazine box would work with the standard length cartidge, but no luck, it won't feed more than one round reliably (the base of subsequent rounds aren't presented high enough for the bolt to pick up). I've called Savage, checked Midway/Brownells/etc, and there aren't any magazine boxes available any longer for the stagger feed rifles. So I guess my question is 3 parts; 1) does anyone have a secret source of older LA stagger feed mag boxes for standard length rounds, 2) is there any way to modify the magnum mag box to work with standard LA cartridges, and 3) if the answer to the first two questions is no, is there any other option for getting this rifle to feed reliably?

Plenty are available on Fleabay for standard cartridges such as 30-06 270 etc.

Might consider asking Fred @ Sharp Shooter Supply.

I’d think your problem is the mag width, not the length. Mag box is too wide, subsequently causing the stagger feed column of rounds to sit lower. I’m sure I could modify the components to work. However, it’s not something I could explain “how to”. Either you know how to modify or ya don’t.

For many used parts, Numrich is the place. However, they are hit or miss. Their stock changes up frequently.

Forgot about that article Phil brought up. Good visual. I’m incorrect on the width, as they look roughly the same. The issue appears to be in the feed like. (As it usually is!)

Off point of your question, do you have a new Bolt Head as well?
