I figure Bobby has toyed with about everything 6.5 based on the 30/30 case, so I’m asking here. How does the JDJ version stack up against the others? I haven’t been able to find much info on it anywhere.

6.5 JDJ is based on a 225 Winchester Case, It is a warm handful

The 6.5x30 JDJ never took off and gained traction like its 6.5mm JDJ brethren, but it's the ballistic twin of the 6.5x30-30 AI and 6.5 Bullberry IMP, so it does have lots to offer. Honestly, you can't go wrong with any of the 6.5mms based on the 30-30 case, and that includes the simple but time-proven 6.5 Bullberry, which is nothing but the 30-30 case necked down.

Back when I was hot to get into the 6.5 Contender game, I really wanted the x30-30 IMP version in order to maximize performance. I ended up finding a good deal on a 6.5 Bullberry (plain ol' 6.5x30-30) carbine barrel and I never ever regretted it for a second. I may have missed out on a little velocity but that thing was insanely accurate and I took dozens of deer and pigs out to 200 yards with never a second thought.

Believe it or not the 6.5 BB IMP is a little slower than the 6.5 BB. The reason being the 6.5 BB IMP version is shorter than the standard version. Check the loading data on Bullberry site and you will see. Don't know why Fred did it this way LOL. I guess his cartridges his rules. I love my 6.5 IMP but if I did it again I would stay with the standard version. I have owned most of the BB 30-30 based cartridges but the one I kept was the 6.5 IMP. Already had the cartridges formed and does have the IMP Look to it.

Yeah, the original data shows some discrepency with the advantage in velocity going back and forth depending on bullet and powder combination. Working up with more recently available powders allows for potential improvement in either of the cases. Even being a hair shorter, there's more capacity in the Improved. I don't the difference is as much as in the 30-30 vs 30-30 AI. It's just hard to go wrong with either one. :)

Learn something new everyday, I just acquired a 6.5 30-30 AI MGM barrel 2 sets of dies one of them being a 6.5 Bullberry IMP and some very short brass for this chamber that puzzled me. Now the short brass makes sense , to many close variations to easy to mix them up, Every time I play with 6.5 it has to be a learning curve

What brand are the 6.5 BB IMP dies. Mine are CH4 just wondering if other brands exist?

What does the brass measure? Years ago, when I had a 6.5 BB IMP made by MGM, the chamber was way too short. The cast I made showed that the body length was the same as the 7mm Bullberry -- and that one does not fit the typical Bullberry profile as its overall length is 1.75". Had to send it back and have them open it up a bit more...

Bobby T Good to see you my friend. Hope the twins are doing well. Just measured on of my 6.5 BB IMP cases and it is 1.970. With wildcats it is real easy to get one off a bit for sure.

Doug it is a Redding bushing FL set Second set is a Lee 6.5 30-30 AI, Bobby Chamber is 2.08 some of the brass 1.96-2.03 the much shorter brass I ran through my 30 Herrett trim die already I think it was 1.7ish so still salvageable, The lead on this barrel is quite long too, I did manage to make longer cases will see after firing how well they do Starline is usually long really need the brass to reach a 140gr is barley .260 in the case neck at the 2.03 length and only one bullet I had that will touch land at that, I want to shoot 120s not 140s oh well we will see when I get it to the range
