I’ve got an old 110 long action in 243. The way it sits right now, it has a 20” barrel and a 12” lop. My 7 yr old is showing a lot of interest in shooting. He shoots a Cricket 22, and a Rossi TUFFY 410 which has a 10” lop that fits him perfect. If I cut the wood stock down to say 9-1/2-10” then put a grindable limb saver on it would it pose any problems that I am not thinking of? The rifle shoots lights out with reduced recoil loads, but it’s just a little long for him.

That’s what I would do.

Couple stocks that I have done that to. Always someone that wants to buy it when I done with them.

Maybe check grip length. See if he can grip the pistol grip and still reach the trigger with good form.

Nope! No problem at all. Very common practice among shooters for younger, smaller counterparts.

A rifle with a 12" LOP is already going to be in a youth stock. If youre going to chop the stock, I'd cut the barrel down too. 16-18" would be perfect tohelp keep it balanced and it would lose a lot of weight too.
Man just like with clothes they grow so fast that in a couple of months 12" lop will probably be just right if he can get by till then.

Actuality, in the northern areas it is not uncommon for short arm adults to cut down stocks for use with winter wear clothing

Cut it then add a slip on recoil pad. That way you can "adjust as needed".
