My Beast

For my 50th birthday, I built her. She is styled off Gary Reeders "Beast" dangerous game carbine.

T/C Encore VVCG 500 S&W Mag. Throated for long (600g +)
Barrel extensively worked by Stratton Custom.
His Special forend conversion, Scout-scope located rail on top. Leopold Scout on QD rings. XS ghost-ring sights co-witness thru scope. Everything is up to the recoil of a 500 cal. Forend stays put, as does scope.

All this to;
"Shoot 50 of my 50 caliber, handloads on my 50th Birthday"

Took my BIL shooting once, warned him to hold her tight against shoulder...

He went home with 2 blk&blu marks on shoulder. Only shot her twice!.

I can see that being a handful (shoulderful?) on a 7 pound rifle.

I've never tried my 16" 375 JDJ from a rifle config. I've always only shot it as a pistol. I'm not sure my wood laminated stock would take the recoil (this is on a Contender frame btw).

I believe you showed that to use before on SP? Regardless, it IS a great looking "carbine"! Never shot a 500 as a rifle, just as a handgun, so i can believe that it has significant recoil! LOL!

With a recoil absorbing thumb hole, added limbsaver butt pad. Still a harsh recoil, esp the 6/700g loads. Some hot loads with 440g hardcast, my favorite.

Scout-scope or ghost-ring, both very usable...

Also Stratton Custom did lots of work for me. Their forend conversion as well as a custom Scout-Scope base fitted for (part way down) barrel.

OUCH!!!!! nice gun tho!!!

i have an TC Encore in a 23" MGM heavy factory barrel in 500 Linebaugh. i only shoot "wussy loads", HS-6 with 450gr LFN at 1235fps. my shoulder doesn't like recoil anymore.

Understandable that its recoil is feared.
LOL I have a .416 Taylor that I can only shoot as a handgun, to much as a rifle.
