How about a thread for all our hunters?

If you can, post a pic.

Let us know the details of your hunt.

Tell us about the gun you used and the ammo.

Hope you all had a great time afield!

I’m bad for not taking photos this year. In Wyoming I was more concerned about getting myself and a whitetail doe back to the truck before a griz, wolf or mountain lion happened along right at dusk. All 3 had been seen in the area that week, which is not unusual. I hunted with a 15” Contender chambered in 30/30 ai by SSK. 125 grain NBT’s propelled by IMR4198 was used.

I’ve carried the same rig throughout our MO deer seasons, but haven’t pulled the trigger yet. I did get a doe Saturday morning with a friends 30/30 Contender using his factory loaded 150 grain Rem Core Lokts. The action was brisk and his rig was within reach. lol

Our final season runs 12/24 - 1/3 and I’m sure I’ll have the 30/30 ai out again and I’m holding off for a good buck.

Monday Nov14th at 4:30 PM in a stand overlooking a cutover, saw this buck following a doe. Stand is next to a Highway and as buck stopped at corn to eat an ambulance passed with siren going and it got really nervous and began to walk away. Stopped at 95 steps broadside and single shot from my Savage Axis 30-06 build using Hornady 150 grain American Whitetail put him down after 25 yards. The Axis started as a 243 then 270 then 22-250 and finally as a 30-06 in a different stock with Nikon 3x9 scope. Not bad for a 77 year old who had to learn to shoot left handed a few years ago because of eye problem.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20221214/54f7bd6e54c7481068f8b71b7759ed4c.jpg

89172nd day of season, sitting in a tree stand on my property, 9:30 a doe comes up with a buck trailing her. They are in thick brush and heading away. Stop them with a grunt. Still no shot. Grunt again and the doe starts walking towards me, the buck turns but not wanting to come out of cover. The buck finally moves about 10 feet , giving me a small gap . 257 Roberts improved carbine with 115 nosler partition.

Shot this bull on December 1st. Day 6 of a seven day hunt in eastern Arizona at 400 yards using a Remington 700 in 7 Remington Magnum that I have owned for thirty years. We walked about five miles a day for the first few days.
I believe he was one I stalked in on during day three only to have another couple of hunters come into the bedded bull we were sitting on and blew him and about 70 other elk out that were also bedded.
Great hunt with a young guide and his very experienced younger guide. It was nice to have a couple of young guns do the rest of the work.

The season in middle Ga has been a strange one to me. The start of gun season was looking promising,
rut seemed to start early. I live on 5 acres, backing up over 100 so I have a small food plot on the back border
and a ladder stand. Have chosen hunting with a handgun for a long time and shots are close in the back yard.
On the evening of October 26th a Doe and her young one came in to feed. A minute or so later what I estimate
to be a 3&1/2 year old showed up. Thinking him to be a target deer as light faded I chose to drop the hammer.
I was using a Smith 657 with a red dot on top. A 215 grain cast bullet under a light load of Universal Clays hit
him a little low and back but took out heart plumbing and he made about 30 yards. A 45 yard shot. Will try and get
a pic of his rack posted later. The genetics in my area are in my eye on the poor side. Bucks have had one nice side
and the a long spike or fork on the other. Have seen this for a number of years. This buck had one of the poorest
racks I have seen in most of my hunting years but still trophy to me taken with a handgun.
