I recently acquired an early round takedown 1899 Savage 20" barrel in 303. The lettering on the barrel and serial # stamped on the butt of the forend, both date to 1911. I have an 1899 with its original 26" barrel that dates to 1907, curious as to when Savage started making the 20" . Any info is appreciated

1899A 22" barrel 1900-1920
1899F 20" barrel saddle ring carbine 1900-1920
1899H 20" barrel Featherwight 1905-1920
So it's either the SRC or Featherweight! Nice rifle and great find. 1899/99's are just like potato chips, can't have just one!!

Thank you sir, appreciate the info. I believe takedown rifles were available after 1907, and these date to 1911, so it would be an "H" or "F" from 1907 - 1911 ?

A takedown would be an 1899H if the 20" is original.
The 1899F saddle ring was never made as a takedown.
