I picked up some 180 grain Hot Cors awhile back to give them a try in a 12” Contender. Anyone have experience with them in a Max for hunting deer? I have yet to begin any load work at this point. I’ve also been considering getting a 20” barrel for a carbine and thought maybe they do well in it too.

I haven't tried them in my 35 Rem barrel, but I'll be watching your progress. Mine (35 Rem) has always liked the 200 gr round noses.

I like the idea of a carbine barrel. Not sure if I'd want plain old 357 magnum, or?

And for some crazy reason a 38 special only carbine barrel sounds fun. No idea why.

I haven't tried the Hot Cores yet Chris but I'm shooting the 180 XTP with good accuracy and may try it during alternative season.

180 XTP’s is what I’ve mostly used. Yep, very accurate. I’ll be working with 158 FP XTP’s as well, but first I believe I’ll begin on the Hot Cors.

I get excellent accuracy with Flex Tip 140's and 20 some grains of 296 in my Max carbine.

Last year I shot two deer with my 357 Max and one the year before. Hornady 180 gr XTP’s.
First deer I shot was a 50 yard shot and showed no reaction to being shot. Walked
30 yds away and fell over dead. Second deer was a 70 yard shot and ran 35 yds and fell over. Third deer was 50 yd shot and ran 30 yds. Recovered one bullet under the hide on off side shoulder
