Please tell me the difference in a "cut barrel" and a "button" barrel?

Which is better?

It all depends on the day of the week you plan to shoot!!! Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays button rifling are clearly better shooters. However, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays cut rifling in superior....

Seriously, take a look at this thread: http://savageshooters.com/SavageForum/index.php/topic,30141.0.html

I own both. I have more button than cut. I have been told that cut rifling gives 30-40% longer barrel life. I don't have proof. That throat of the chamber wheres out first. Probably see equal amounts of button to cut barrels in short range benchrest. However in long range shooting, cut barrels are probably most common. No guarantee that either is going to out perform the other.

Luck in your quest, Tim
