I bought a Model 99E (S/N 10812XX) 1964 manufacture if I read the chart correctly. Chambered in .243; with Savage marked scope rings and a Savage-Suwa, Japan, Model 0433, 4x33 Scope.

Would this have been a "factory special" package?

Picture time!

Here are a few pictures of my Model 99E. The serial number puts it as being made in 1964,

Clean 99E, and in 243. Nice. The "package" 99E with Savage scope and rings wasn't catalogued until 1967 and was called the 99E/S. It was literally just a 99E in a box along with the scope and rings, you had to assemble when you got it. In 1964 they did sell the 99E, the rings and the scope - just not as a package/combination. So it all likely dates to 1964, and the 99E retailed for $102.50 that year.
