Hi All
She came with sights, front broken off of course, and a 3x9 Bushnell in see thru mounts.
Someone shortened the stock by about an inch, decently done though. Gonna need a new one.
The metal is in very decent shape, usual barrel scratches, and the bore looks almost new.
The bolt doesn't have the Savage logo etched on it like my last 110E. The stock bolts and bolt plug are all slotted and not Allen headed.
The bolt baffle lacks the guide rib and the bolt runs quite smoothly. Her trigger is superb. Light and breaks very cleanly.
I'm going to be looking to build on this rifle. I paid $250 for her. Think I stole it actually. It's been years since I've seen a 110 for sale ' round here.
She's a .30-06, which is fine. But the barrel is light and I'd like a 24, or better yet, a 26 inch tube. Medium weight. I like long barrels...
The see throughs GOT to go. The Bushy too. I'd like low rings ( steel) and non- cheese grater bases.
I've always liked the 110. Nice to have a rifle that you literally don't need a gunsmith to do anything.
She's my only breachloading centerfire.
I'm glad to have another 110.
The dating thread isn't more specific than the overall run for an E prefix. Any idea where I could narrow things a bit?
Serial number is E41967x.
Thanks!

Cheese Grater bases? I’m guessing that’s the separated Weaver style? Haven’t heard that one, LOL. I use the dedicated Picatinny style rail, or Mil-STD-1913. TPS makes a nice set of steel rings, as does Badger. Those are the best steel rings made. The Warne are decent as well. I’m prone to 7075 Billet. What are you looking to build on it?

Your 110 was built in 1985. https://www.savageshooters.com/showthread.php?55695-Dating-Serial-Numbers-with-a-Letter-Prefix

Is that what you were looking for?

Thanks for the heads-up. 1985, cool. I call picatinny rails cheese graters. I just don't like the looks.
She's going to primarily be an informal target rifle. My range goes to 300 yards.
Hunting would be obvious, but I REALLY love taking my muzzleloaders for a walk.
Bore life and component availability are critical to me, so she'll probably remain a .30-06. The ability to scavenge components from virtually every other .30 calibe cartridge is also very nice
Should it ever come to that...
If the world were normal, I'd like to make her an 8mm Mauser. Great cartridge!
I'm looking forward to putting her together. Slow and steady will win this race.

I can see calling the segmented Weaver that, but not the Picatinny. Not for nothin’, but you do know about every serious Target rifle uses Picatinny rail with mount or rings, right? LOL! J/K Seriously, it is important to enjoy your rifle’s looks. I get it. As much people online saying things like: “I don’t care nothing about looks..” Reality is, it’s like, “Uh-huh…sure ya don’t.” Ya baggin’ what I’m rakin’? It would be the same las not caring what your car looks like, or what your shoes look like! Humans are visually discerning creations! We care deeply about a certain “look” that is appealing to each of us. To the point we don’t care even what others think when we like a certain look. So I get it. Your only other option for rings or mount is a non-rail, 1-piece or 2-piece mounts. That what you’re thinking?

I have now put Burris 2pc Extreme Tactical bases and Warne and now Athlon rings on 2 different Savage.

If money weren’t a concern, I would run the Murphy Titanium Model12 rail & Tier One long saddle 1-piece mount. This is about the most indestructible setup that can be.

Maybe one day. For now I use the Talley 20MOA 7075-T6 rail and ADM Recon-S 1-piece mount in 6061-T6.
