Finally bit the bullet and picked up an Ultralight in .308 yesterday. I took a postal scale in the store with me and the .308 weighed exactly 6.0 lbs. and they had a 6.5 CM that weighed 3 oz. more. Not sure how they figure "5.85" lbs. unless that's without the magazine. Regardless, I know it's hard to get real world weights on rifles, so for those who are curious that's what those two rifles weigh. They didn't have any long actions or I would have weighed them too.

Same length barrels on each? Could be the “official” weight is without the magazine, which would put it just about with your findings, vs the listed 5.85lbs.

Different rifles- different scales- and marketing.... Putting 5.85 pounds also has an advantage over putting 6lbs in peoples perceptions even though it's mere ounces different. Not sure why they would weigh it without a magazine as that's part of the rifle.

And if they have the same barrel then I would expect the 308 to be slightly lighter as it has a bigger bore (more metal removed) over a 6.5 offering. Either way- at 6lbs it's still a very light rifle.

5.85lbs is probably a .280 ? or a .223 or something ?

Both would be heavier due to more material in the barrel and in the case of the .280 AI - a long action.
