Looking at one of the three new extreme rifles: Timberline, High Country, and Ultralite. On the website there is no mention of short or long actions. But if you look at the OAL for some of the rifles it appears some may be short actions, but I don't know for sure because some of the OAL numbers are inconsistent.

Does anyone know if a 308 or 6.5 PRC are on short actions for any of the above 3 models?

Savage went back to one model # (110) for both long and short actions a couple of years ago on new models. Length of the action is dictated by the cartridge the rifle is chambered for. Same as you'd find with a Remington 700, Winchester Model 70, etc. The only models still using the old 2-digit/3-digit numbering are those that were in production prior to this change in the naming scheme.

Indeed. After awhile your eye just becomes trained to distinguish the lengths.

Don’t know why they made the change. Used to be easy for new Savage owners. A Model 10, 11, 12, etc. was Short Action, a model 110. 111 and so on, was Long Action. Regardless of cartridge as Savage has done Short Action cartridges in Long length Actions, but the 10/110 model designation remained.

So if I bought a 308 in a Timberline, High Country, or Ultralite, which if any would be a short action?

All three would be short actions. Again - action length is determined by the cartridge the rifle is chambered for.
