Bow season has kicked off, but basically only rifle hunt these days. Several years ago I found the 300 BLK and it’s a fun round to me. Bought a Savage Axis 2 a couple of years ago but then sold it to a buddy after I built an AR in 300 BLK, but a couple of weeks ago I bought that Savage back from him. Sighted it in, or zeroed it if you prefer, slapped my Sandman L on it and I’m ready for deer season.

I’ve got about 300 rounds that I loaded a couple of weeks ago because I need to rid the ranch of pigs, and we also have way to many coyotes.

The top is a coyote I shot a couple of weeks ago. The grandson and I were out working on some setups for deer when he decided he was hungry and wanted to go the cafe. We loaded up in the truck and drove down the ranch road to the front gate. It’s not unusual for me to see deer, pigs, coyotes and every one in awhile, a Bobcat. Well sure enough, the dog was stopped about 75-yards off the road just staring at the truck. I came to a stop, used the mirror for a rest and slightly squeezed the trigger until the gun went bang. The dog went straight down and didn’t move, not even a twitch. My hand load was a 110 V-Max over 20.3 grains of Lil Gun. I didn’t post the one pic of the hit because the wound was devastating, with the exit would the size of a softball.

Here are some of his brothers and sisters I will take out if given the chance this deer season.

Excellent rifle and cartridge to get rid of those pesky critters.

I love it when they go right down without even a snap of the tail which makes me miss my 788 in 22-250. That dog has some decent fur for this time of year. Where abouts are you located? That's great that your grandson and you hunt together.
