hi
living in the commie state of illinois i can finally use my hog hunter to hunt whitetails. the only catch is i need a “zero round magazine” as we can only use single shot rifles, or shotguns of course. anyway does anyone know if this type of magazine is available for a .308 hog hunter?
thanks
ken

Seems like a single-shot loading ramp might work for ya. I'm currently using these, someone here can probably confirm they will fit your hog hunter.

Sharp Shooter Supply - The Savage Specialists (http://www.sharpshootersupply.com/)

Click "loading ramps" in upper left corner.

Sounds stupid enough to be a NY State Regulation. (Though, actually, we have made progress in my lifetime to better rules). Why not just leave the magazine home and slide a round in the chamber with you off-hand fingers in the magazine well?

That seems like a good rule-- if you gut shoot an animal you want to be sure that you can not get a quick follow up shot....

Can you just modify one? Drill a small hole in a mag and put an aluminum rivet in at the right spot to not allow the follower down further than one round-- or snap the bottom off the mag and put a wood dowel in so that only 1 round will fit.

I just happen to have a single round feed plate for a short action. Message me if you'd like it. Just pay the postage.

If you can open the mag, remove the spring and add a wood block or some way to hold the current plate solid so a round can not be Forced in. Some able officer will try to force one in just to see if he can.

I wouldn't recommend trying to chamber a round while hunting with nothing in the mag well. I tried that once at the range and kept dropping rounds through the opening.

As already suggested, the easiest solution is probably to put a wood block in the magazine to prevent the follower from moving, so that you cannot load any ammo into the mag. Easily undone or you can just swap the mag out for an unmodified one as needed. To appease the over zealous fishcops, don't carry an unblocked mag with you when hunting. The wood block does the same thing as the wood or plastic rods in shotgun tubular mags to reduce the capacity for waterfowl hunting.

Now that’s what I’m talking about! That’s what I did with my first AR15 in Arizona to use it Varmint hunting. 5rd mag limit. Used a 10rd mag and a wood block to kit to 5rds. Easy-peazy Japanese! And cost all of ZERO dollars & NADA cents!
