So IÂ’ve got a Savage 24 VS series D with nickel finish in .357 maximum over 20 gauge. I think I need to find a new home for this gun but am having a hard time determining value. I believe this configuration is one of the most uncommon of the Savage 24s. IÂ’ve got the pistol grip too. Anyone out there have any thoughts about the general value here or the best way to sell? This is my first post and I cannot see how to upload any photos. Many thanks and best wishes

Take a look at some of the gun auction sites and see what they are going for.
Picture posting on this site is about twenty years behind the curve. Needs to be upgraded to copy/paste, otherwise to have to jump through hoops using a hosting service. Total PITA!

Thanks Big Al, unfortunately I have tried that and there just don’t seem to be many comps. The few I can find don’t seem to provide any information about sale price. Tricky….

The only thing I can really find for this model are three ended listings on gunbroker for one gun with pistol handle but not original stock for $1500, $1600, and $1700. Never sold but one listing had a bid for $1600 (did not meet the reserve). This seems pretty high to me though. Anyone have any thoughts about this?

My guess is $1100, but I wouldn’t be shocked by $300 in either direction. Just a Nickel plated receiver, yes?

Thanks a lot. The barrel is nickel too.

Golly, all-over Nickel makes it even harder to predict. I would be tempted to put something like that through a high-end auction house. You’d pay more in fees, but that would expose it to more well-heeled collectors. I don’t know if those sorts of places take consignments of a single item.

Thanks so much to everyone for the dialogue about this gun. I’m going to list it on gunbroker for what seems to be a reasonable opening bid and see what happens. Any thoughts about how I might do a little “marketing” here on this forum and others to let Savage 24 collectors know about it? Thx again.

I think this thread will inform everyone who has an interest on this forum. You might also post a notice at Savage24.com, although that forum has slower traffic than this one. When I sell on Gunbroker, I always post mid-week at the maximum length to ensure that it runs across two weekends. Good luck!

I have a friend looking for one of these. I'll let him know you're posting it on gunbroker.

Please do. I’ll post back when I get it listed. Thanks again.

I just listed this on Savage 24VS series D 357 maximum over 20 gauge in all satin nickel finish on GB. I hope it finds a good home. Best wishes.

Proof there's a lot of people out there with more money than brains these days, and they're willing to spend whatever it takes to get whatever it is that will tickle their fancy on that given day. Some of the prices on 99's have been blowing me away lately. Worn out gray rat's that used to sell for 400-600 just a couple years ago are now fetching $1000-1500.

Fortunately I was raised with some common sense, otherwise I'd probably have given in to my lustful desires and bought that Savage 99C in .22-250 (very rare) I saw listed online earlier today for $2900. Guess that's also why I'm not a very good gun collector - I'm too practical in my thinking.
