Hello folks. Glad to be here. I live on a ranch that has been in the family for 125 years located about 50 miles from Cody that raises Buffalo. Guess some folks call them Bison. :p
Anyway...have always been a fan of Savage firearms and have several rifles and shotguns of various models.
I have a problem with one of them in looking for a part that seems to be very difficult to find. I need a replacement extractor for my Model 24V Series D with a .357 top barrel and .20 ga bottom barrel. The shotgun part of the extractor is worn to the point that it will not extract fired shells.

I have tried to locate a new or used one from the usual sources I normally go to but unsuccessful this time. My gunsmith tried to repair the old extractor but was not able to fix it.

Would appreciate information or suggestions you might have in locating a new extractor. The .357/20ga barrel combination seems to be much more difficult than the more common.

Thanks in advance.
Reagan

Welcome Reagan. My oldest son lives in Cody.

Could an extractor from one of the other cartridge combinations be modified?

Thanks gbflyer...the extractor for 24V Series D have a different shape than most of the others. I would need one that could be mortified to fit the rim case.357 cartridge. Most are too large like the 30-30 or are rimless. The shotgun part of the extractor is the easy part. I was hoping I might find one for the .22 Hornet to see if it could be modified for the .357 but they are even more rare than the .357 apparently. The .22 Hornet may not be a 24V model ether...not sure. If it isn't it the extractor may not be the same shape or design as mine. Thanks...you are thinking the same way I am.
None of the parts houses that I have talked to have any either.

Welcome friend. Yeah.. that appears to be the odd man out part. This is the only one listed at Numrich. https://www.gunpartscorp.com/products/114730B

I wonder if you might be able to modify it. Being it’s already 20ga, and that it’s 22lr/mag, it would see it has enough material to shape accordingly. Just a thought.
