Savage Custom Rifle Value

While I get some feedback on Savage actions in another post, I would ask what should a custom Savage rifle sell for? See below.

Savage Dual Port Target action, timed and trued by Fred Moreo.
Action pillar and glass bedded by Fred Moreo.
SSS heavy benchrest stock.
Shilen 6mmBR Select Match (highest grade) barrel, 1:12” twist. Chambered by Shilen.
Farrell scope base.
Farrel rings (1”).
600 – 700 rounds fired.

Dual Port TA - $450 new from NSS
SSS time and true - $125
SSS HBR - $300 (includes the pillars)
Shilen 6mmBR - $309 (26inch - large shank)
Skim Bed - $90
Farrell base - $100
Farrell Rings - $150

less cost after 600-700 rounds...that where the rest of the guys will be able to help, but the above totals $1525, so work from there.

The Shilen stainless select match barrel is $380. The Farrel base is $70 and rings $135. That all comes out to $1550. About the same, just different way of getting there.

Take off 20% because it isn't new and whatever you feel is proper for the ammount of wear. Does it have the factory trigger?

I would say 1100-1200 maybe a tad less if you want to sell it faster. Selling customs is a loosing game, sometimes you can do better parting it out.

Unfortunately, getting even 50% of your money back out of a used custom rifle rarely happens. 9 times out of 10 you'll recoup more by parting it out than you ever will selling it complete, but you'll still fall far short of what you have invested.

I can get it for under $1000 and that includes a sizing die and a Wilson bullet seater. The stock apparently has some yellow stain on it near the action from cleaning fluid. Supposedly shot a 5 shot group in the .15s.

Sorry if it is anyone here, but I would consider that to be a sign of a careless owner (on a newish bench gun!?@? - how?!) and would go with caution.

Check Jim's price for Shilen stainless select match, listed here as Northland Shooters Supply...you might be surprised at the prices he has...but yes, the Farrel prices came direct for Farrel's site so price would be different. Still pretty darn close. Don't know how set you are on the one you are looking at, but $1000 for the one vs $1500 for your own build...I would pick my own parts and know it was what I wanted, but that is just me.

oh and Jim, Sinman or Fred at SSS one, any or all would be great to work with...these guys are good.

I'd say around $1100-1200, depending on the damage/stain to the stock, and that it is what you are looking to buy. If you dont like something about it you might as well just build one yourself.


The only thing is i woulda thought for a bench gun it would have been an 8 twist 6br barrel, but still a great barrel non the less.

It would depend on it's worth to the owner....I have a 6x47 Lapua that couldn't be bought for anything y'all have been talking about so far.

It's value, is sometimes worth more than the sum of it's parts. ;)
