Greeting to all. First posting.
I have a few 99's. My first was my grandad's late 40's vintage in 300 SAV. I also have a 243 win , 308 win, 30-30 win, 284 win, and a couple of 250-3000's. My 3 uncles each have 284 Win 99's.
My problem has been identifying a scope base on one of the 250's.
I stumbled across a picture of a mount in a 1947 Outdoor Life which I believe is correct. I think my 99 is D&T'd for a Weaver Q mount. The mount holes are not on the spine but come in radially. I have seen a similar mount on a couple of vintage pre 64 Win 70's and a German K98 sniper rifle. The ad stated that a mount was available for the 99.
I have been looking for 25 years to identify this and have spoken to literally hundreds of gun people at shops and shows and nobody knows anything about this mount. Up to including the people who owned the guns that I have seen the mounts on. Crazy how elusive this has been to get information. Obviously they didn't make these for long because they are not common.
Glad to be a member and expect to be posting on various projects. Wish I had one in 22-250.

Welcome to our forum.

Are you by chance referring to the Weaver T7 mount?

Nope that's not it. The mount is a combination base and ring in one piece and looks similar to a Leupold (American?) rimfire or a Warne where the top is held by one cross screw. The 2 piece bases are held by one screw on either side and enters in to the receiver at approximately 45 degrees. I wish I could post a pic of the receiver but I am out of state and not able to access the 99 for awhile. The only picture I have ever seen of a mount was in Outdoor Life magazine from 1947-1948 in a Weaver ad but the mount was on a bolt action. The ad said it was available for a 99.
It may be possible the mount was some sort of custom and was copied from the Weaver or from a German Mauser. The unit I saw on the K98 Mauser was on a original WWII sniper rifle at the annual Colorado gun collectors show and the mount was screwed and soldered down for strength.
