As the title says, what's with that? Why would commercial brass have the primers crimped in? It's like working with military brass again. :noidea:

I would guess it is from military assy lines. A lot of the .223 commercial stuff (bulk/cheap) I purchased had crimped primers.

+1.

Since US SOCOM adopted the 6.5 Creedmoor as one of its cartridges and Hornady was given the contract to produce military grade ammunition then that ammunition would have crimped primers. I have commercial 223 ammunition, not 5.56 NATO, that comes with crimped primers....One example is "Frontier". It is made by LC for Hornady and comes with crimped primers in both NATO and 223 forms.

Yup, yup.. No biggie.. Grab an RCBS primer Swager die. I like LC brass.

Got that covered with my Dillon swager. Still a PIA adding another step, I hate processing brass, LOL!

LOL. I don't mind brass processing, but, I hate doing primer pockets for some reason.

so far, Dillon is the best I tried. Friend tried my Dillon and bought the RCBS. He liked the handle angle better. otherwise said it processed the same quality product.

I love my Dillon 550. I just use the RCBS Swager Die in it. I don’t mind any aspects of reloading. Processing, prepping brass. Cleaning, swaying, de-burr primer pockets. It’s all a pleasurable, relaxing past time for me. Funny.. even though the Dillon is a progressive press, I use like a Single Stage most of the time. I’m just never in a hurry.

And don't forget trimming  A couple of years ago I picked up some Hornady Match 308 1X cases. I think {CRS} the seller said it came from a police range , and noted that it had crimped in primers. After trimming I put an inside the neck chamfer and then use the same tool on the primers to remove the crimp, all from the comfort of my recliner in the A/C. Just charge the electric screwdriver

Yep, I don't mind trimming, chamfer, even neck turning with the proper tools. But, for some reason I really dislike the primer pocket crimp removal.

Huh.. not me. One pass on the Swager die. Shoot, I do TWO passes most of the time! One pass, ‘bout a third turn on the case & 2nd pass. Very similar to how I use the factory crimp die on 223. Crimp, third of a case turn & crimp again. But even doing all that is just relaxing pass time to me.
