My elder brother recently passed away and I inherited a
Stevens Visible Loader that is incomplete. I have a few
questions that might help me decide what to do with it.

First, the serial number is "F 5XX" the XX are two number.
Can anyone give me an idea of the date when this might
have been built?

Second, the front half of the rifle is there: barrel, ammo tube,
sights, bolt, firing pin, trigger, pump wood. The missing
parts are the back stock, the hammer, hammer spring
and what ever else goes above the trigger. It appears
that s lifter is missing too because when the actions is
worked a shell is not lifted into alignment with the bore.
So this leads to a number of questions.
A. is there something that tells how to take the action
apart and reassemble it? Words and a schematic
that shows the parts and where they go would be good.
B. Is it possible to find/buy the missing parts after I
find out what is missing?
C. Is it worthwhile to try to make this a functional
firearm or is it only extra parts.

Would a picture help anyone?

Thanks,

Thomas

I suggest you try to find another rifle for the missing parts.

Also, note these are EXTREMELY weak actions . . . .NOT to be used with “high speed” ammo . . . .

There's some parts on e bay. stevens 70 visible loader: Search Result | eBay (https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2380057.m570.l1313&_nkw=stevens+70+visible+loader&_sacat=0)

I have one and it's a fun shooter! I love restoring an old closet queen back to functionality!!

Good Morning,

I really appreciate you thoughts on using standard velocity ammo and that these are fun shooters
when restored.
However, what I really need is some technical information. If possible, I would like to know when
this was built. But more important, I need a schematic or better yet and explanation of how to
take the action apart and what goes into it (so that I figure out what I need to make it functional).
It would also be nice to hear from someone who have parts or a parts rifle. Perhaps one of
us can end up with a functioning rifle. :-)
