Help Unscrewing No Nut Barrel on Target Action

Hello,

I had an amazing 6brx built - no nut - and wanted to unscrew the barrel , use the action for another build now that I’ve gotten out of F Class and had a blast with it, beating many Custom Builds over time :) . I’m just focusing on Long Range Steel.

We have the barrel blocks , action wrench, etc and haven’t done this in a long time.

Can I just unscrew it like I would if it was put together with a barrel nut ?? I don’t see why not but ….. “….measure 2x , cut 1x “ seems to apply here.

Its a highly polished Stainless action and barrel and the barrel is a full “bull barrel “ 28” long.

Just wanted to double check so I don’t mess up !

Yes, the barrel is simply screwed into the Action & stops on the shoulder. Easiest way is to lock barrel in a barrel vise & use an Action Wrench to unscrew from the barrel. Your barrel blocks should work.

I protect the barrel by using an old TP cardboard center while in the jaws of a barrel vice/blocks

Perfect , thanks for the reassurance, I didn’t see why it would matter but it’s an expensive, shiny EVERYTHING!- Kreiger bbl, Fred done Target action, PTG oversize fluted bolt , Gretan bushed firing pin, EVO trigger etc …

I’ll need to remove the scope base , correct ?

Yes, scope base off. You want the Action bare, & clean. Well.. I like them clean, lol.

Don't drive it off of the recoil lug if you don't have too. I put barrels on and take them off with the bolt in. Am I doing it wrong?

Yeah, I don’t think the bolt matters. Certainly not going on. Doesn’t it need to be there on install, for headspace? I think so.. LOL! I guess coming off, it’s your preference.

BTW, this is a world record from 2019. It was 2198yds & shooting at a billboard size target, LOL.
