Now that my obsession with the .284 Win has finally run it's course, helped along by the fact that you can hardly find 7mm bullets at the moment...

I'm wondering if anyone here has built a 6.5 PRC on a standard short action? Seems to me the COAL would be a good fit for Savage's 3.00" magazines.

What say you?

I have a short action in a bighorn TL3, 6.5 PRC and it works wonderful. So far i have only run 143, 145 and 147 grain bullets in mine, but the OAL is just fine for those. I use the no binderplate AICS mags. I am at 3050 FPS with both the 145 and 147 grain bullets. I don't really feel the need to go with a longer/heavier bullet as i feel i would lose enough speed that it may not be worth the tradeoff. overall i just love shooting the 6.5 PRC and it cuts the wind just beautiful!

I talked my brother into getting a 6.5 PRC in a Savage Ultralite. It is a dandy rifle!

Thanks. Is the Bighorn short action also a 3.00" box?
