Hi all.
I have my fathers stevens 311d. I started hunting with it as a teenager in 1980. Replaced the cracked birch with some nice walnut as well.
Anyhow I was looking up date of manufacture and it seems this was made in 1958. Family members don’t think it’s that old. There’s a J and an A both inside circles . See pic. Am I correct it’s a 1958 ?

Supposedly it’s on the bottom of the receiver but mine has nothing there or on either side.

I can't help either, except to say I have my dad's Sears version of the 311 and on the bottom of the receiver just behind the forestock is a very small oval stamp surrounding two digits and a letter, 24R. Based on centerfire rifle stamps, I presume this would be the inspector's code (24) and date stamp (R = 1964). It should be visible in the first picture of your 4th post to this topic.

In my case, this seems to be accurate as I know my dad purchased this shotgun while he was stationed at Kincheloe AFB in UP Michigan (1963 - 1966) and remember going on a few rabbit hunts with him (I would have been 6 - 9yrs old).
