I recently put together a 17 remington on an axis action and I just cannot get it to feed consistently at all. I have ruined one magazine trying to get the feed lips right and tried 3 other mags to eliminate that factor. My main issue is it hits almost 1/4" below the chamber, or it will spit one up into the top left of the chamber or it will spit the back of the round out before the front. My real question is, Is this round just too short for an axis action? Would I be better off just getting an 11 short action for this barrel? I have found no info on anyone building a savage in this round so any build threads or info on this would de appreciated

start with a .223?

Small cartridges like the .17 and .222 benefit well by cutting a feed cone at the chamber mouth. A feed cone that is identical to the one in an AR-15 seems to be the most ideal.

I started with a stripped axis action.
