I was in the process of removing the chassis on my B22 Precision to do some trigger adjusting and this happened !! The head of the shorter screw just sheared off. I was merely unscrewing it and there was no torque. On inspection it seems it was holding on by a thin ring of metal around the base of the head. I am surprised this thing did not fall off before!..... Just the thinnest metal holding the head on the body of the bolt. Seems they set the hole for the wrench too deep to me. Tried to source a replacement in the local Ace hardware ,but it seems it is an odball thread size. Guess I will be calling Savage in the Morning. Does anyone know if the centerfire screws are the same size as I can buy them on EBay? Notice the damage on the end of the threads also...what kind of junk metal are these?....would ideally like to replace both with better quality hardware.

They are 12-32 threads, and you won't find them anywhere but Savage.

Yes, it would seem so. I may just go ahead and re-tap threads for a 1/4" /24 screw that can be readily obtained. The Savage ones are junk anyhow. Found some other threads online that have suggested this.
I cannot believe how flimsy the factory screws are !

Junk Screws. No wonder they only want you to torque them to 20 in/lb...

So I was able to find replacement better screws available online here... https://www.diproductsinc.com/Detail.aspx?PROD=718013
But decided to drill & tap the factory plugs to take a 1/4 x28 bolt.
Torquing at the recommended 20inch lbs, the rifle would not group at all !.....back to tight grouping again when torqued to between 35 and 40 inch lbs.
