I am being gifted a 6BR barrel to swap with a 223rem barrel. What all do I need to convert my bolt face? I know I need a new bolt face but not sure which one or what else is needed.

The BR uses the normal .473" bolt face like the 308. If your putting it on an axis you can use a short action. 473 off the model 10 style savage.

Good information. The only thing i will add is if you have an older gun you are using you may want to check the diameter of the firing pin, make certain the firing pin hole in you new bolt head is correct for your firing pin diameter and to make it a quality swap, verify your firing pin protrusion.

Good luck.

Swapping from a 223 to a 6BR/308 bolt head wouldn't they also need to swap the front bolt baffle? I know I am going to have to swap going from a 243 to 223 otherwise the bolt wobbles in the receiver.

don't know about wobble, but most .223s are set up for a shorter stroke travel

Yes wobble, rifle is a model 11 Trophy Hunter 243 and I have rebarreled it with a Model 12 Varmint barrel 223. Bought the bolt head from Gun Shack but at the time did not buy the front baffle with the longer tang. From what I can observe between this and my Model 10 223 is the different baffle is where the looseness is coming from. My understanding is that the baffle is what restricts the bolt travel and as the 6BR is so short it may not make a difference.

I'm not sure about looseness but the long front baffle reduces the amount the bolt goes rearward and is used in conjunction with the blocked magazine like the one that is used for the 223. I could not find a picture of the once available Savage 6BR magazine but here is a picture of an MDT 6br magazine showing a similar block. The cartridge in the photo is a 6 Dasher

Just today ordered a long front baffle for my swap and that magazine you pictured is very interesting. Before I decided to use this model 12 barrel 223 I was going to rebarrel to a 6BR but couldn't find a way to deal with the DBM. Figured the 243 mag would be too long.

Try it before you throw the towel in. 308's feed good from a 30-06 mag.

You can easily do this to your magazine box.

Its a non accu trigger axis

Measure the firing pin. I am sure it is small since it is an axis.

Do you guys know where I can find a 308 bolt face? I contacted Savage and was told they don't sell them or advise swapping due to fitting issues.

Do a search on here as this was just discussed last week.
