I have a Savage 12FV in .223 that has a damaged firing pin. It is rough and pitted from repeatedly punching through primers. My question is can I trim the damaged portion off the end of the firing pin (~0.050), clean up the tip, and adjust the firing pin forward or do I just have to replace the firing pin?

yes, being everything is adjustable.

Be careful when making the radius. Many that I have seen make the radius too long and it causes cratering. To pointed and it will pierce the primer. Sharpshooter has a picture of a correct firing pin radius I believe. If he doesn't Jim Baker does. If I remember correctly it was about .020" long and the radius is large.
