On blind magazine long action mag boxes for short action calobers, did they use a block in the rear of the magazine box or were they full length?

I have 2 long actions, one will end up a 280 Ackley and the other will be a 7mm-08. If they used a block, then I will dedicate one action to the 308 family and the other to the 30'06 fan.

If they were blocked, where do I need to look for a Mag box, spring and follower?

Thanks Darryle

“Edit” Nevermind. Sorry. It looks like there is a Block in place.

Off topic, It’s odd to me, and perhaps I just overlooked it I the past, but it has seemed lately that everybody & their 2nd cousin’s niece wants to chamber a 280AI now. It’s like the NEW hot thing with 6.5CM popularity.

Long actions with short cartridges used a short magazine, and as such the receiver was machined for a short magazine. The only magazines that used a block was the .223 and .204, and they were still short magazines.

Ahh yes, that was it. So if you already have a Long Action caliber, you can switch back & forth, but if you have a Long Action that was factory chambered in say a 308, it can NOT then be chambered in a Long Action caliber.

Short action with a single shot follower will eject lonģer fired cases if you really want it to

Well, that answers that. These were originally 30'06s, I guess I won't have any serious cycling issues using one with the 7mm-08?

No, it will work perfectly fine. Many people actually prefer using long actions for short action calibers because it allows long loaded OAL.

You should not. Mine is currently set up for 243 and works great.

The most reliable feeding, smoothest action, best extraction/ejection Savage I have ever had is my 110 Long Action, blind magazine, stagger feed.
