I came up with something for my new Mirage Chassis. I’m not bedding the whole Action, not to start, but the area for the Recoil Lug is large. I was planning to bed the Lug, and something dawned on me. It’s a Chassis. A perfectly machined & finished Billet Aluminum Chassis. The Recoil Lug area is very nicely machined with flat & square floor & sides. So I thought... I have a bunch of pieces, scraps 6061-t6, 7075-t6, & 2024-t3 Billet Aluminum. I also have a mill, belt grinder, various measuring tools, etc. Oh! And an EXTREME fondness for machining parts coupled with a fair bit of ability. I went ahead measured & machined a plate that fit the opening & contour of the chassis perfectly, leaving NO play for the Recoil lug to float forward or backward.

Here is the part machined from 2024–t3 Billet Aluminum next to the Recoil Lug.

Here it is tucked into the Chassis. A PERFECT fit with NO mess to clean.

Sometimes bedding fixes imperfections that spacers will not. Like blueing the action fit in an alluminum chassis. sometimes you just dont want the action screws influencing the fit in the chassis.

I still may end up bedding, I did bed the MDT. But from all the research I’ve done guys are NOT bedding the Mirage Chassis. Apparently these guys really know how to machine one. Skim bedding. I certainly wouldn’t bed it like I would a Fiberglass stock. Billet Aluminum AIN’T like Fiberglass. Doesn’t creep nearly as much.. And most people with Mirages are part of ELR crowd But I do know I LOVE this Chassis. I can say the Action fits MUCH better than in the MDT. The Mirage URL “holds” the Action better. So we’ll see.

Is it really? Hard to consider being they stock several manufacturers with that model, don’t they? I don’t have any dealings with those. I was using the TAC21 & I did like & still do like very much. But I came across a video(it was a Rex Tibor video no less), with the Mirage URL, & I was taken by it. I knew when I saw it I wanted it. And now I have it.
