I have a Savage Axis 308 that could use a recoil pad as the one on it is getting bad. What is the size of a pad do I need, small, medium or large? I called Savage and they didn't know as they don't have replacement pads. I have the newer style stock. Also after checking online, I may have to get a whole stock, where would be the cheapest if I have to go that route? I am on a fixed income and can't afford a whole lot. Thanks for any help.

There's really no aftermarket support for the Axis stock. Your best bet will be a slip on pad either medium or small.

I measured and with a tape I got 4 7/8" or close to that from bottom to top, would that be medium or small? Also would armour all help protect the pad? thanks

Do you really need a pad with 308? If you have any problem, just get one of the shoulder pads that you wear around your shoulder. Like this: https://www.amazon.com/Shoulder-Protective-Shockproof-Adjustable-Camouflage/dp/B08RYSTSCF/ref=sr_1_13?crid=3FCUR5QR61T6Q&keywords=Wearable+shooting+pad+for+shooting&qid=1642853770&sprefix=wearable+shooting+pad+for+shooting%2Caps%2 C54&sr=8-13

The one on his is worn, hence the reason for replacing it.

I decided to go with BEARTOOTH neoprene recoil pad, made in USA and covers over the bad look of the factory pad. Didn't use the spacers as I don't need them just something to help the looks and prevent the stickiness. Gonna save for a new stock and I hope to have enough saved before November to get one, being on a fixed income makes it hard to save much at a time. thanks for all the help

Keep an eye on Ebay as you can usually find take-off factory stocks on there for very reasonable prices.

Not sure if anyone actually makes a replacement pad for the newer Axis stocks - or the newer synthetic 110 stocks due to the factory pads being wedge shaped where they join the stock rather than flat.

I have a Bear Tooth neoprene slip on that's been in use since the early 2000s when the .300 Remington Ultra Magnum was introduced.
The Beartooth is a really great product and besides reducing felt recoil drastically, Doesn't melt into the safe carpet and stick to everything it touches leaving black goo like the limb savers. Every limb saver pad I've had ( 3 or 4) has turned to sticky black goo over time. Remington even had a recall on the ones that came factory installed on their higher end commemorative and CDL rifles because they just melt over time. I'm kinda surprised limb saver hasn't fixed this problem as it is a known long standing issue with their product.

What size did you get if you don't mind me asking? I just got a 308 axis 2 in hardwood and the recoil pad is literally nonexistant.

The Beartooth neoprene pad is one size only but fits most stocks, fits the Axis perfect and the Ruger American. It comes with the extra pads to put in yourself so to fit the pad to you, comes with thick, medium and thin foam inserts, I didn't use any as I just needed a cover over my old pad. I did have to take a razor blade and make small nick to fit over my sling stud. But it hasn't unraveled as it is sewed real good.
