Hi guys, im new to both this site and to Savage firearms. I recently acquired a Savage bolt action in 270 win. This is an older rifle and according to the website, Savage doesnt work on these older guys anymore. I received this rifle without a bolt assy (apparently the guy i got it from would remove the bolt instead of the ammo while hunting) ::) and is now lost. I was curios if you guys could give me some ideas as to replacing the bolt assy without having to buy individual parts and having it assembled. Or is that my only option? Please help and thanks. Oh...This is a model 110. sorry :-[

Welcome to the site.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but there may be some problems. First, you will have to headspace the barrel to the new bolt assembly, the second problem is, the bolts are fitted to the actions, it will be a hit or miss that the new bolt assembly will properly work in the new assembly.(Sometimes you can get lucky and everything will fit and work fine.) The third problem may lie with where you buy the parts, some dealers will not sell bolts unless you are a gunsmith.

You'll need these. They are quite easy to assemble.

You'll also have to trade someone rear baffles. Your action needs a flat and the newer one from Midway needs a round.

Like 82boy said, you'll need to check the headspace once you get the bolt.

You could pay for a membership and place a want ad. Members here may just have a complete bolt that they would sell.

Ah ha! thanks geargrinder. Midway did not have assemblys listed a while back and now they do!(well actually on backorder, but are listed now) I was expecting to have to reset headspacing but not familiar with the baffles your talking about. Which is why I thought I should ask 1st before jumping into anything. I didnt pay anything for the rifle so I figured whats a 100 bux added if it gets the rifle going. I guess I should do a lil more researching before making any purchases. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. And again, thanks for the wisdom and help guys!

The rear baffle and bolt handle are shaped to match the rear bridge of the action.

The newer are round, and generally called round rear vs. what you probably have- flat rear.

It's where the rear scope mount goes.
