I have a @ 2018 vintage Savage 10 BA Stealth in 6.5 CM with a few MDT @ 10 rd. Plastic mags (I assume these are “Gen 1” mags). I left these mags fully loaded for several months, so apparently the (cheap) plastic mag upper deformed so that now the mags won’t fully seat in the mag well or chamber rounds. I wouldn’t trust these cheap ass mags for anything but range use.

What are my alternatives? Apparently Magpul AICS mags won’t work reliably in this rifle, which is a shame because Magpul stuff generally works well.

I hear there is a “Gen 2” MDT plastic mag available now — are these any good? Or just more junk? If the Gen 2 mags are decent, can I send these crappy Gen 1 mags back to MDT for replacement?

I see MDT also makes a metal mag for $100 — not crazy about paying that much per mag, but do they work? Any other alternatives?

Thanks!

The MDT all steel magazines in 308/6.5 Creedmoor are going for $68 to $80 for 5, 10, 12 round AICS magazines. I checked this morning June 1, 2022.

Why won’t the Magpul mags work? Those are actually my favorite for my 260 Rem. I had to fit them just a bit for my Chassis, but they worked flawless afterwards. I have heard time & time again how cheap the MDT mags are.

I am planning to order some Accurate 10 rounders that will fit 2.960” COAL rounds. So I can play with some extra length. My Magpuls fit a 2.860” roughly.
