So I had contacted Savage to try and find out if it was possible to remove and replace the bolt handle on these and they told me that each bolt is fitted to that particular rifle action for correct headspace and closing pressure, which I can understand. So, in my quest to have a larger bolt knob, I did a little custom work and removed the end of the factory handle and fitted with an 5/16"-24 thread adaptor.
It turned out great, though it was a little nerve racking when first taking a hacksaw to it !.........all done with basic hand tools and will now accept any aftermarket bolt handle with that thread. (its the most common type).
Very pleased with how it turned out and it really adds more leverage also, making it easier to chamber and eject a round. I plan on getting the bolt assembly tube cerakoted very soon as the black factory finish was never very good from the start and it should improve the look and help protect it better.

Sweet rifle. What’s it do at 25-50yds?
What ammo does it like?

After trying most every type of .22Lr available, I have concluded that its favorite is either Eley Match or Lapua Midas +, which unfortunately, are some of the most expensive also!
I have had some great 5 shot groups at 50 yards using these two (see pics) and also got pretty decent results with the Eley Match at 100 yards even though it was a little breezy that day..
the small ones are 5 shots at 50 yards and the ballistic app ones are at 100. This is the only time so far I have gone to 100, so I have no doubt it is capable of better.
